Stop selling ads; sell services

Local media is an area receiving significant attention at the moment. However, my plea; we need to get way from the thinking that revenue from online advertising is enough to create, and sustain local media properties. It’s not.

According to PaidContent UK, the Tories have called for ‘ad-funded multimedia local news companies.”

Any proposals need to consider the needs of local businesses; the employers who drive local employment and regional growth.

Local businesses want online marketing services; they want access to web services which help market their business and drive sales.

A local media property which relies on an ad funded model for local news won’t benefit local business enough. However, a services one will.
