Informa bid collapses
September 19, 2008The private equity consortium planning to take over Informa PLC has withdrawn its bid. The collapse of the deal is the latest victim of the global financial crisis.
“It’s no surprise given recent events that funding of any offer has become more challenging,” an Informa spokesman said. “The board is confident of prospects for the year and trading is in line with the board’s expectation.”

Private equity bid for Informa

Informa plc, the provider of information to the global academic & scientific, professional and commercial communities via publishing, has reportedly received an offer from another group of private equity firms.
Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has held talks with Providence and Carlyle about joing their £3bn buyout of Informa and until now, Providence and Carlyle hadbeen working with Hellman & Friedman (H&F), another US private equity firm, on a bid for Informa.
It is thought that DWTC is being lined up as a possible to replacement to the H&F bid consortium.
Informa has a market capitalisation £1.8bn and If successful, the deal will be one of the largest private equity buyouts carried out in the UK this year.
