Chief of Yahoo Jerry Yang believes that online advertising will emerge stronger in the wake of a recession.
At the IAB Engage conference in London today, Yang called for advertisers to continue spending in an economy where consumers are still “engaging with big brands.”
During his speech Yang highlighted search marketing as a key tool of exploitation. He said: “Performance-based advertising is very important to driving direct response. Search and lead generation continue to be a growing area for all of us.”

We all know the Internet is changing business media, but according to scientists, the Internet is changing the way our brains work. Gary Small, a neuroscientist in the USA, has found that the Internet and mobile devices are training our brains to filter information much quicker – changing our behaviour when it comes to making all important decisions.
According to his study, which can read on Reuters, the Internet doubled activity in a users brain which controls the decision-making function.

Regulators in Russia have blocked Google’s $140 million acquisition of Zao Begun which provides search and contextual advertising for both text and video.
A statement from Google commented: “We are very disappointed to hear that FAS has come to this decision. We strongly believe that this acquisition will enable us to significantly improve opportunities for Russian users, advertisers and publishers as well as the entire industry.”
Begun runs a network with 40,000 advertisers covering 143,000 Russian-language Web sites.

According to the latest figures from IAB, UK spend on online advertising was up 21 per cent to nearly £1.7 billion. The research also revealed a 28 per cent growth for paid search which now accounts for over half (58 per cent) of total online spend.
Display advertising increased 16 per cent to £334 million – aided by new developments, and spend, on formats such as banners, rich media and video.
